Refresh For September

Well, hello again. Remember me? I used to run a little blog from this corner of the Internet, formerly known as 'She Who Is Short'.

You may have noticed that things have changed a bit lot around here, so lets begin with the name change. The name ‘Flemingo’ originated during my second year of university when I had to think of a name for my design portfolio, that’s where ‘Flemingo Designs’ was born. I’ve decided to carry ‘Flemingo’ through to my blog as I wanted something that tied in my blogging life and design/work life together.
Another change that has occurred is a massive blog design overhaul. I felt that it was only right that now I’m a graduate web designer/developer, that I have a snazzy new blog design to fit the title.

So, here's when I start to explain myself…

This is the first blog post that I’ve published in just over a year *slaps wrist*, so you may be wondering where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to.
I debated with myself for a long time about reviving my blog, constantly worrying about what would happen if I fall out of routine, get into a rut with my content or if life throws a spanner in the works. So, I’ve had to remind myself that I started this blog as a creative outlet and it’s something that I love doing - it’s not about comparing myself or my work to others. I know that there are plenty of people that manage to balance a university life and/or work life alongside blogging and to those people, I wholeheartedly salute you.

Well, as I briefly mentioned above, I’m now a First Class Honours Graduate In Interactive Multimedia Design! This is something I never thought I’d be able to achieve, as there were times I really struggled during university, constantly comparing my creative abilities to the abilities of others. That’s just one reason why I felt like I needed a blogging break, to focus on getting the best possible experience from university and fortunately, it paid off as I managed to get a grade that I did not think was attainable for me and I’ve made a few friends for life.
The other reason why I took a break was simply because I fell out of love with my blog. I didn’t like the aesthetic or the content that I was creating just over a year ago. I had written posts over the past year, but I could never bring myself to click publish on them because I didn’t feel as if the content was up to scratch in comparison to the content being produced by others. Again, comparing myself to others and I know that I shouldn’t, but it’s hard to break the habit of a lifetime.

Although I do feel guilty about taking such a lengthy break, I know that it was the best decision for me in order to not get too burnt out. I’m now ready to get back on track with something I love doing and has been part of my life since 2014.

The reason why I've decided to start today is because there’s something about a new month, even more so a new season that fills me with inspiration and enthusiasm for what’s to come.
For example, I’ve brushed up on my web design, graphic design and photography skills over the past year, so I want to create some design based content.
On a more personal note, at the age of 22 (nearly 23), I finally feel ready to prepare for my driving test, which may not sound like a big deal to the majority of people, but driving at the age of 17 petrified me and I feel like it’s my time now, I’m finally ready for it. I also want to create some content related to being an anxious driver and learning to drive in your 20's, as I feel like reading about other people’s experiences has helped me to overcome a lot of my own worries about driving.
Finally, I have a little nephew on the way around December time, which is exciting as it’s the first baby in the family. I just can’t wait to put him into little dungarees and teeny tiny shoes. Plus, if he’s born before Christmas, Christmas jumpers!
Speaking of babies, my own fur baby is doing just fine as well.

Anyway, I think that’s enough rambling for now. I hope everyone that’s stuck around during ‘She Who Is Short’ is doing well and that ‘Flemingo’ is just as exciting for you as it is for me. Also, I’d love to know if there’s anything that you do to refresh at the beginning of a new month or season. As always, let me know in the comments!

Much love,
