September Favourites

12:00

Well well well, it's been a while since I've had the chance to do a monthly favourites post. To be frank, this month has gone with a blink of an eye. I've still been applying for web developer and graphic designer jobs, fixing up my portfolio, working on freelance projects, getting back in the swing of things with my blog and the thing I'm most excited for - finally being able to look at cars since I passed my test last week!
Since I relaunched my blog at the beginning of September, I could have easily just included products that I've specifically been loving this month. However, I have been using a couple of these products since August and I feel like it would be an injustice to these products to not mention them as they are so bloody good. So, let's get stuck in...

First up, we have the Pixi Glow Tonic. You may have seen that I mentioned this in my 'A Collective Beauty Haul' post and I can see why everyone and their Mum has this in their skincare stash - it is incredible. It's the kind of product I just knew I would like before even trying it. Glycolic acid, aloe vera and ginseng sounds like the dream team for my skin, especially now that the weather has started to turn a bit cooler and my skin usually throws a temper tantrum whenever the seasons change.

Another product I featured in my 'A Collective Beauty Haul' post was the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick - Rose & Shine. If you read that post, you'll have noticed that I picked up another shade, Plum This Show and although it's a gorgeous shade, Rose & Shine has been the one I've reached for more. It's such a pretty rosy pink shade, which I find to be one of the most flattering shades against my pale skin. Plus, this lipstick has serious staying power, it managed to withstand a 12 inch pizza and look completely unscathed, so it's a big thumbs up from me.

I'm pretty sure that the L'Oreal Paradise Mascara will be on everyone's monthly favourites this month and with good reason. Rumoured to be a dupe for the famous Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, you can definitely see the similarities between them. Plus, with it being more than half the price, it's worth checking out. In fact, I would go as far as saying it's one of the best budget mascaras I've ever tried.

Remember earlier when I said I've been using some products since August and they're too good to not give a mention to? Lush Scrubee Body Butter is one of them. I was the first person to get a demo of this in the Lush Belfast store and from the minute it made contact with my skin, I just knew I had to get it. To be fair, I was going to get it anyway because it's shaped like a bee and I just couldn't pass that up. However, I knew I made a good purchase when I walked around Belfast for the rest of the day saying to my boyfriend, "Feel my arm, it's sooo soft", I just couldn't wait to get home and try it out properly. I get extremely dry, itchy skin, specifically down one arm which tends to get worse when the cold weather makes an appearance. So, on days when it's particularly flared up, there's no better feeling than stepping out of the shower or bath and using this little bee to slough away any dry patches, thanks to the combination of ground coconut shells and ground almonds. Plus, the hydrating honey and cocoa butter ensures that there won't be any further irritation.

I'm pretty sure that Bahama Mama will be in every Essie lover/nail polish hoarder/berry toned obsessives stash and now is the time of year that it starts to make an appearance. It's one that I go back to every year and it's easy to see why, as this beautifully rich, deep plum shade is an absolute dream to apply and looks gorgeous on the majority of skin tones. It's creamy formulation just glides across the nail and is fully opaque in two coats, although you could get away with just one coat if you didn't want an much of a punchy colour.

Last Autumn, I picked up MAC - Plumful and I only wore it a handful of times. However, at the beginning of September I placed it at the front of my make-up collection and made a conscious effort to wear it more this year and I'm so glad I did. It's a lustre finish, which usually isn't my go-to formulation when it comes to lipsticks. However, I couldn't not wear it, as it's such a beautiful rosy plum shade and it's surprisingly moisturising, which makes the perfect transitional shade for when I want a break from abusing my lips from too many matte lipsticks.

Is there anything better than having a pamper night and getting to use a Lush face mask? I think not. At the start of September, I traded in my 5 Lush pots to get a free fresh face mask and one of the lovely Lush girls really took her time listening to me talk about my skin, what I want and don't want from skincare products etc. She recommended that I tried the Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask, as it's perfect for combination skin and rejuvenating skin, especially at time of the year when skin can start to feel and look a little dull. The mask contains honey to sooth, ground almonds to exfoliate and fresh fennel, ginger root, parsley and coriander to detox and stimulate the skin. It's earned it's place as one of my favourite Lush face masks, but it just doesn't beat Mask Of Magnaminty quite yet.

One product that I don't push myself to try more often is primers. Mainly because I'm afraid they will reek havoc on my skin after having a bad experience with one a few years ago. However, when I noticed The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer, my interest was peaked, as I heard such good things about the skincare benefits within The Ordinary's products. Initially, I was a little scared to use it, as it stated that it was a silicone primer and in my mindset silicone equals a slippy, greasy, skin wrecking mess. So, to say that I was pleasantly surprised is a bit of an understatement. It wasn't slippy or greasy at all, in fact, it applied more like a moisturiser, made my skin feel comfortable and made my base products apply like silk. I've been using it so much that I've nearly finished the tube, so I'm going to snap up another one as soon as it's back in stock.

Have you even been on Instagram if you haven't seen one of these somewhere? Whenever it involves Nutella, I just have to get involved. Basically, the Nutella B-Ready Bars are just like big baguette shaped Kinder Buenos without the chocolate over the top of them. Even though they're targeted as a breakfast bar, I would find them a bit too sickening early in the morning, I think they're much better for elevenses, but they are bloody delicious.

Whenever I think of my childhood, I think of Winnie The Pooh. So, whenever I saw this adorable little Winnie The Pooh blanket in Primark for a mere £6, I near enough ran to get it. Plus, you bet I went back for the whole duvet set, pillows, mugs, you name it. The blanket is definitely my favourite item from the collection though, it's the softest blanket I have ever owned and I've bought blankets for way more than £6, only for them to turn scratchy after a few washes. I didn't even care that I looked like a 22 year old woman-child, I'm pretty much reliving my childhood. If it involves Winnie The Pooh, I'm on it.

Autumn and Winter is the season for snuggling under a blanket and watching all of the good TV series' come back on our screens. This month, my boyfriend and myself watched the Suits season 7 mid-season finale (YASSS - if you know, you know) and we can't wait for it to return around January time. However, while we're waiting for it to return, we've also been enjoying American Horror Story: Cult and of course the Great British Bake Off. A new series that we started at the beginning of September, one we've been meaning to watch for a while is Mr Robot. It's the type of series that you're instantly hooked on from the pilot episode. We're nearly finished season 2, so we'll be ready to start straight into season 3 whenever it returns on the 11th of October. Not to mention that The Apprentice and Stranger Things will be returning in October as well.

What have your favourites been throughout September? Let me know in the comments!

  6. Gorgeous favourites Sara! I miss doing favourites posts, I switch up my content quite a bit so haven’t done them for a while. Before I went cruelty-free, I always lusted after different Mac lipsticks, I still have ‘Plumful’ and ‘Brave’ and I love how they smell like vanilla. Lately I’ve been enjoying Lily Lolo make-up. :-) xx
